Peace in the City

One more week and we’re off on vacation!!! Count down begins!! It’s going to be a hot Christmas this year :)

I reluctantly rolled out of bed this morning, I was all snug under the duvet and the room was cold. We never sleep with the heating on as it gets too hot in the night but getting out of bed in the morning is super chilly! bbbrrrr I think the room was around 57F!

I bundled myself up with Robs big dressing gown, which is ten times too big for me, and went to make breakfast.

Before:

After:

Proper ‘buttah’ with Marmite and an OJ! I also had a mouthful of the omelet that was leftover from last night and it now keeps repeating on me! My senses are definitely a lot more sensitive since being pregnant.

The walk to work this morning was so peaceful, probably the one and only good reason for getting up to work on a Saturday is it can be very quiet at 8.30 in the morning – even in New York City!!

See ya lattah!

The Times They Are A-Changin’

Oh how our lives have changed over the last year! When we first moved to New York we would never be sat in on a Friday night. We’d be out having drinks with friends or trying a new restaurant or going to a gig but since trying for a baby and being pregnant this is now how we spend our Friday nights…

Curled up on the sofa watching a movie.. and I wouldn’t have it any other way!

Anyone guess the movie?

I used up the leftovers for dinner tonight and made a huge vegetable and bacon omelette. I ate about 1/3!

With a slice of bread and butter.

For dessert we finished off the last of the Cadbury’s chocolate :( 4 tiny squares each.

..and just because you haven’t seen this little face for a while, here she is..

Curled up on the sofa too!

Fruit anyone?

Toast or cereal, toast or cereal……??

Cereal! With half a banana and cherry vanilla yogurt. We didn’t have much milk left so it was a bit dry…. I just tried to google ‘dry mouth’ for a funny image but I don’t think you would have appreciated seeing what came up! I certainly didn’t!

I didn’t really appreciate the cherry vanilla yogurt either.. I’m not really a cherry fan – there I said it! I know most people will think I’m crazy but they just don’t do it for me! I just don’t like the flavour plus you have to deal with a huge pip in the middle! I like more flesh and less pip in my fruit.

Speaking of food….I was relaxing on the sofa last night after a long day at work and think I felt movement down below. I can’t be sure, it might just have been gas but it was definitely something!!! This could be the start of feeling the little sweet potato move!

Apparently my baby is about the size of a sweet potato now hence the referral to an edible, tuberous root vegetable above! There have been a few referrals of the fruit and vegetable kind throughout the weeks; bean, plum, peach, avocado, lemon, orange!

Hmmm I wonder….

Lemon Fulcher maybe???

Happy Friday!!

Stress-less!

I think I should change the title of this blog to ‘Worrying About My Baby’!

I’m worried at the moment because I haven’t felt anything! Yesterday was quite a stressful day for me and so now I’m worrying that I’ve upset or hurt the baby in some way. Other than a small bump and larger chest I don’t feel pregnant and it’s starting to get to me…. is there anyone out there who feels the same?

So much for taking it easy.. yesterday morning I was up early with Rob to go to the hospital… not for me but for him. He managed to badly hurt his ankle playing football on Tuesday night so I said I’d go to the hospital with him. Thankfully they were lovely at the hospital and really quick. They took some X-rays but couldn’t find anything wrong, they were actually puzzled by what they found. He’s in a lot of pain and yet no broken bones and no swelling or bruising so they told us to just keep an eye on it and see what happens. He’s now hobbling around on crutches!

The rest of my day off was spent crawling around on the floor trying to figure out how to connect our new 47″ TV! This thing is ENORMOUS! I literally spent 4 hours trying to figure it out and after several calls to Best Buy, Time Warner Cable and LG I was still non the wiser, until Rob’s friend Gordon came over… he suggested the one thing I hadn’t even thought of and with a few tweaks we finally got it working!!! No thanks to the ‘Geek Squads’!! I think all we need now is a bigger apartment to accommodate our HUGE TV!

In between the hospital visits and crawling around on the floor I did manage to eat! For breakfast I had the usual cold cereal with fruit and yogurt, for lunch I was craving eggs so made myself a hard-boiled egg sandwich with an orange, afternoon snack was a banana and almond butter and dinner was my favourite meal of the day… Barbarini’s homemade lasagna followed by some delish mint chip Haagen Dazs ice cream!! My new favourite flavour! Amazing!

I also managed to squeeze in a little jog. I felt really good to get outside for some fresh air! It’s getting really cold in NY. We haven’t had any snow yet like the UK but it’s certainly cold enough!

Stay warm my friends and I’ll try and stop worrying so much!!

Snoogle Anyone?

I finally had a good nights sleep with no backache at all thanks to this…..

A Snoogle, otherwise known as a pregnancy pillow.  I’ve been waking up in the middle of the night with a bad back because I needed more support. This pillow takes a bit of getting used to because it’s quite large and Rob was a bit perturbed to be sharing his bed with “an enormous worm”, but it is a life saver… or back saver!

There are many ways you can sleep with it and initially I chose to sleep with it against my back with the bottom curved bit through my legs…  looking a little something like this:

Sorry no actual photos! I’m bad enough taking them in the middle of the day let alone middle of the night and do you really want to see me in the middle of the night!

During the night after going to the restroom I came back and changed positions to this:

Which was actually really comfy! It was hard to manoeuvre the pillow under the duvet but it was great once you got into position! I would definitely recommend it to all pregnant women out there! I had no back ache last night for the first time in a while!

This morning I was brought breakfast in bed by my wonderful husband.. it was the biggest bowl of cereal I have ever seen! He’s taken the term ‘eating for two’ literal! Regardless of the size I still managed to get through most of it.. YUM!

  • 1/2 cup shredded wheat – probably more like 3/4!
  • 1/2 cup of granola
  • 2 tbsp yogurt
  • 1/2 banana
  • skim milk

I’m still waiting to feel the baby move but I will keep you all posted!

Can you remember the first time you felt your baby move?

Soup or Stew?

As I got onto the crowded train I wondered whether anyone would notice I was pregnant and let me sit down? Unfortunately not, although I didn’t mind too much because I was on the express only going one stop but it made me wonder do they just not realise i’m pregnant or are they choosing to ignore the fact? I was on the train the other day and this kind man gave up his seat for me so I’m thinking the latter is the more likely answer!!

Since I’ve been pregnant I’ve gone off the one thing I couldn’t live without and that was salads! Maybe it’s just the cold weather but the thought of eating a bowl of spinach makes my stomach turn and so now I’m turning more to soups. I can’t get enough of Au Bon Pain soups! On my home I stopped in and had some for my lunch, it was actually more of a stew than a soup but they all pretty much look the same.

Chicken and vegetable stew! A.M.A.Z.I.N.G!

I didn’t get a photo but here are the ingredients taken from the Au Bon Pain website:

Pearl Onions, Russet Potatoes, Carrots, Celery, and Shiitake Mushrooms are simmered in a Burgundy scented Broth with tender morsels of Chicken, Petite Peas, and Sweet Cream.

I had it with a small baguette!

I’m contemplating going for a jog this afternoon. I’ve continued working out but at a much slower pace and rather than doing 5 miles I’ll now only do 2. I make sure to listen to my body though and not over do things. My doctor gave me the all clear, so I’m good to go. I can’t help but worry though that all the jiggling about would be upsetting my baby but apparently your stomach doesn’t jump around when you run! We’ll see what happens when I get to 8 months pregnant.

By the way, I am 17 weeks today.  My baby is about 6 1/2 inches long and weighs in at about 4 ounces!

It truly is the most incredible experience I’ve ever had! :)

Sleep Deprivation!

I had quite a rough nights sleep last night! Sometimes I can sleep all the way through and other times I struggle. I just couldn’t get into a comfortable position and then I think how will I cope when I’m 8 months pregnant and the size of a house!! Right now I have a tiny bump and I’m struggling to get comfortable… I’ve got no hope! I think I need to invest in a pregnancy pillow!

Talking about cravings yesterday… last night all I could think about was salty popcorn! Like REEEALLY salty popcorn! So I guess the sweet cravings have diminished!  Bless Rob, he got home from his Christmas work do, stinking like a brewery, and offered to go out and buy me some but it was 10pm and I thought better of it. Maybe that was why I had such a bad nights sleep?!?!?

For breakfast I wasn’t really in the mood for oats but I made them anyway…. Oats In A Jar..

Check me out trying to get all artsy with our new camera! Slight improvement on the last one me thinks! It’s not quite a canon but I’m told, by Rob, it’s the ‘hybrid of camera’s’ whatever that means.

It’s a Nikon Coolpix P100 and looks very snazzy!

It takes pretty good shots in very bad light and there is even a ‘food’ setting! Happy days! :)

This morning oats included:

  • 1/3 cup oats, 1/3 cup milk, 1/3 cup water
  • blueberries
  • flaxseeds
  • chia seeds
  • agave
  • shredded coconut
  • chopped walnuts
  • almond butter

We were all out of bananas and they were certainly missed in this mornings jar!

I’ve already been snacking this morning on guess what….

Salty popcorn… but it wasn’t quite salty enough! Rob suggested going to the cinema this weekend so I can get my fix to watch Black Swan and I jumped at the chance! We can both be winners… he gets to drool over Natalie Portman for a couple of hours and I get to bury my head in a bag of popcorn! I’m guessing I will look a little like this..

…but with less fur!

Help! I think I need some more sleep!!!! Happy Friday everyone!
