Protein

Are you getting enough protein in your diet?  Protein is made up of amino acids which are crucial for the maintenance and regulation of the body.  It is the basic building block of cells and tissues which are needed to keep us strong.

If you don’t have enough protein in your diet you may experience one or more of the following symptoms: sugar and sweet cravings, feeling spacey and jittery, fatigue, weight loss, loss of healthy color on face, feeling weak, anemia.

If you have too much protein in your diet you could experience some of the following symptoms: low energy, constipation, dehydration, lethargy, heavy feeling, weight gain, sweet cravings and/or stiff joints.

Everyone is different and will require different amounts of protein in their diet, consider your heritage, ancestry, blood type and activity levels when choosing how much protein to eat in your diet.  I would recommend trying out different sources and amounts of protein to see how your body reacts. Maybe you are feeling fatigued and not eating enough protein – experiment with it.

Protein comes in many different forms:-

  • Animal protein sources: meat, egg, fish – try different types to discover what works best with your body.
  • Vegan sources of protein: grains, beans, soy, nuts, protein bars

TIP: If you’re cooking with fresh beans make sure you soak them overnight to make them easier to digest.

Why not try something new this month!
