


In 2005 Christine was diagnosed with Celiac disease, meaning that she could no longer eat anything that contained gluten. She approached me because she wanted to share her story with everyone. For years she had been suffering with abdominal pains and spasms and she noticed that certain foods would make the symptoms worse. Her symptoms gradually became worse and eventually she was diagnosed with Celiac Disease. By being diagnosed, Christine finally had answers for her condition and was able to move forward in her life eating a gluten-free diet. She has actually turned her life around because of this disease.

Gluten is made up of two proteins, and can be found notably in wheat, rye, barley and oats. Celiac Disease affects 1 out of 133 people. This disease is brought on by an adverse reaction to eating gluten; the small intestine is unable to absorb many of the important nutrients our bodies need. The long-term effect of this disease can be life-threatening; however it can be treated by eating a gluten free diet.

- Barley
- Rye
- Wheat
- Malt
I can imagine the hardest thing to give up would be bread and cereal; however there are some great alternatives out there just check out your nearest health food store.
