Dr. Fereydoon Batmanghelidj has a very interesting concept about water and that is “you’re not sick; you’re thirsty”. His work shows that many degenerative diseases can be prevented and treated by increasing water intake on a regular basis! Dr. Batmanghelidj spent over 2 years in prison studying the effects of stress on the body and the medicinal purpose of water in times of stress, and he discovered that water removes the pain of disease on the body. In today’s world we are all too quick to mask the pain with prescription drugs without realizing what these do to us. Dr. Batmanghelidj wrote that “To hush the body’s call for water by masking the symptoms with drugs is like turning out the dashboard light that signal to us that our car is about to over heat”; so we don’t even realize that what our body is actually trying to tell us is that it is dehydrated and needs water. He believed that chronic pain within the body that cannot be easily explained should first be interpreted as a shortage of water.
Water makes up approximately ¾ of the human body and without it we wouldn’t be able to survive, so it is important to make sure we are getting enough.
Here are some of the diseases that can be attributed to water shortages. Drinking more water can, in some cases, prevent and cure them:
Heartburn – upper body
Arthritis – joints
Back pain – spine
Angina – heart & lungs
Migraine – head
Asthma – lungs
A dry mouth is the last sign of dehydration in the body; dark coloured urine is also a sign along with dry skin and tiredness. Start to recognize this and take action. You should be drinking half your body weight in ounces in water a day – more if you exercise.
